Obesity And Heart Disease
There is a significant relationship between obesity and heart disease because obesity is known to be one of the major risks of heart disease.
We usually incorporate heart attack to overweight and obese people. Is there any relationship to support this judgment? I believe that there is more than one reason why obesity is a risk factor of heart disease. So, if I were you, I will start watching my weight right now, or maybe after reading this article.
Obesity and heart disease have a very relevant connection with each other. If we see obese individuals, we normally conclude that their chances of having heart disease are great. Are we being judgmental, or there are supporting facts about this notion. But, what exactly are the reasons why obesity and overweight have higher risks of heart disease?
Obesity is simply described as too much body fat. Our body is made up of water, fat, protein, and many different vitamins and minerals. If there are too much fat, especially in the mid torso, you are at high risk for health problems, such as high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Obesity is recognized as a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, which can eventually lead to heart attack. Some of the known reasons why obesity is considered a major risk factor are that it raises blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, lowers good cholesterol, raises blood pressure, and can induce diabetes. This is why obesity and heart disease are interrelated with each other.
Obesity is mainly caused by taking in more calories than are used up in physical and daily life activities. If you eat too much calories, too much saturated fat, trans fats, and cholesterol, your blood cholesterol levels increases, therefore increases the risk of heart disease. Can you now see the relationship between obesity and heart disease?
To know if you are obese, calculate your BMI, or body mass index, through the use of this equation. [BMI = W (kg) / H (m)], where W is your weight in kilograms and H is your height in meter squared. If the result is more than 25, you are overweight, but, if your BMI result is more than 30, you are considered obese.
Obese individuals are the ones believed to have higher risk of heart disease because this could mean that they have high blood cholesterol level. And, high cholesterol level may result to blockage of coronary arteries that can lead to heart disease, and if worse comes to comes- will eventually lead to heart attack. To prevent from getting obese, limit your intake of fatty foods, involve in physical activities, like regular exercises, dancing, and other activities that can make you sweat. Losing weight and staying fit is not too easy of a job, but it's worth it if in exchange you will have a chance to live a longer and fruitful life. Take obesity and heart disease out from your dictionary- for good!
